PC Install Checklist
Simple Checklist for Setting Up PCs at New or Existing Sites.
CTSG Always ensures the settings of each PC is identical before leaving the shop.
Follow the guide below on each setting that needs to be adjusted before a PC is considered ready for deployment.
PC install checklist:
1) Begin with plugging in all USB, serial, and power connections to the new station and powering on the station.
2) Go into Device Manager and check the following settings:
Disk Drives – Make sure that Write-caching policy is disabled
Human Interface Devices – Check all USB input devices, under power management make sure the devices are not set to fall asleep if they remain unused.
Network Adapters – Under power management, make sure the adapter is not set to shut off after inactivity.
Ports – If the station has a pinpad on it, disable FIFO settings, and make sure it is on the correct port and baud rate.
USB Controllers – Once more, just check power settings, disable any power settings that will make the devices shut off after any period of inactivity.
3) Go to services and verify that following services are running, and are set to startup automatically: DNS client DHCP Client Function Discovery Resource Publication SSDP Discovery UPnP Device Host Windows Time Shift4 UTG recovery settings (set to restart service after failure)
4) Change the name of the Device to the station that you are replacing then restart the PC when prompted.
5) Change the IP address of the station to a static IP via network adapter settings. Make sure the IP you use matches the station. For example: Focus station xxx.xxx.20.21, Backup station xxx.xxx.20.22, ST3 xxx.xxx.20.23.
6) Check for any Windows updates that may have been missed since the imaging date listed on the box.
7) Conduct a CCleaner scan of the device and the registry.
8) Find Focus station on the network, go to C: > Focus then find the current version of Focus that the client is using and copy this across the network to the station you are working on. Create a Focus folder in the C: drive on the new station and drop the .exe there. Once you have successfully copied the file, you will send a shortcut to desktop.
9) Right click the new Focus desktop icon and shorten the name to “Focus”, then proceed to properties. Once you are in properties, you will change the target path to the appropriate path for the computer (paths listed below). After you have edited the path, you will make sure that the application runs in administrator, apply the settings, then close.

10) Boot Focus application on the station and check to make sure that the Focus folder that you created in the C: drive auto populated.
